Action-Based Behavioral Support - Derby

Department: Behavior Technician
Location: Derby, KS

What’s the Role?

Looking for a job where you can make a real difference every day? As a Registered Behavior Technician (RBT) at KBS, you’ll be in the trenches, working directly with individuals to help them build new skills and overcome challenges. Whether you’re teaching a child with autism how to communicate, or helping an young adult develop life skills, your role will be all about creating change in people’s lives—and seeing that change firsthand.

You’ll be using Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) techniques, following the plans set by experienced professionals (BCBAs), and directly contributing to the growth and success of your clients. If you're looking for a job that’s not just about punching the clock, but one that keeps you engaged and constantly learning, this is a role you’ll want to check out.

What You’ll Be Doing:

  • Getting Hands-On with Clients:
This isn’t a desk job. You’ll be working directly with clients—whether in their homes, schools, or the community—using ABA techniques to help them develop important skills like socializing, communication, or self-care. You'll be in the field, making a difference day in and day out.

  • Tracking Progress & Adjusting on the Fly:
You’ll be the eyes and ears on the ground, collecting data on how well clients are doing with their behavior plans. The better the data you collect, the better you can help your supervisor make adjustments to keep things on track. This is where your attention to detail and problem-solving will shine.

  • Making Skills Stick:
It's all about helping people improve. Whether it's teaching a child to ask for help or working with an adult on life skills, you’ll be using ABA strategies to help your clients gain new abilities that will benefit them long-term.

  • Teamwork:
You'll be working closely with BCBAs and other team members to make sure the therapy is consistent and effective. You’ll be part of a team, but you’ll also have the independence to take charge and handle situations as they come up.

  • Problem-Solving in Real-Time:
There will be challenges—especially when working with clients with behavioral issues. You’ll need to stay cool under pressure, think on your feet, and use your training to de-escalate situations when needed.

What You Bring to the Table:

  • Education:

    • High School Diploma (required).
    • If you’ve got a degree in something like Psychology, Education, or Social Work—that’s a plus, but not necessary. We’re more focused on your attitude and ability to learn.
  • Certification:

    • 40 Hour RBT Certification (free) . If you don’t have it yet, don’t worry—we’ll help you get the training you need.
    • Experience: Any experience working with kids, teens, or adults in a behavioral or teaching role is a bonus, but if you’ve never done this before, that’s cool too—we’ll teach you the ropes. Experience with ABA or in a similar field is helpful, but not a deal-breaker.
  • Skills:

    • Action-Oriented: You like working with your hands and seeing results in real-time. This is a job where you get out what you put in.
    • Communication: You’ll need to work with a wide range of people—from clients to families to colleagues—and communicate clearly.
    • Problem-Solving: You’re good at thinking on your feet and staying calm when things don’t go as planned.
    • Physically Fit: Some clients may need help with physical tasks or in crisis situations, so being in decent shape can be important.

What We’re Looking For:

  • Passion for Helping Others: If you’re someone who enjoys working with people, solving problems, and seeing the real-world impact of your work, this role is for you.
  • Team Player with Independence: We value teamwork, but this role will also require you to think on your feet and handle situations without always waiting for direction.
  • Growth Mindset: This is an opportunity for you to grow in the field of ABA, pick up new skills, and advance your career. We’re looking for people who want to take on more responsibility and rise through the ranks.

Perks of the Job:

  • Competitive Pay: We offer a solid hourly rate that’s competitive in the industry.
  • Paid Training & Professional Development: We’ll set you up for success by providing paid training and helping you get certified as an RBT.
  • Career Growth: This role can be a stepping stone to more advanced positions in the ABA field (BCBA, Autism Specialist, etc.). The sky’s the limit if you’re looking to advance.
  • Flexible Hours: We understand life happens, so we offer flexibility with hours, including evenings and weekends if that fits better with your schedule.
